Call for Support

Ladies and Gentlemen of the cyber-world.  I am asking for money.  Not for me, but for the victims of both Harvey and Irma.  As you most may know, the American Red Cross is VERY LOW AND DISRESPECTED in the list of charities.  While they collect the lion’s share of donations, less than half of their money actually reaches the field.  What with high-paid central staff, fund raising costs, and just plain graft and incompetence, the stories coming out of Texas show a callous disregard for just about everything and everyone involved.

I am a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.  As such, I am sworn to the ideals of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.  The KofC was founded in 1882, and has grown over the years to encompass the US, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Poland and recently into Ukraine, Panama, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Cuba, and where my family comes from,  Lithuania.

The charity arm of the Knights is staffed and supported by both volunteers and paid staff – but paid staff are supported by the Insurance section, not through donation money.  As such, 100% of donations are sent to the target.  In this case, various churches, KofC Assemblies, and KofC Councils; where they distribute both cash and items of substance (food, clothing, blankets, etc) directly to people at distribution centers and food kitchens.

As such, please consider supporting the works of this charity.

Thank you.  vonMeßer.

Brother Knight,

Hurricane Irma has hit Florida. The destructive power of the hurricane is unimaginable.

In light of such devastion, it’s easy to feel helpless.

But you’re not helpless. In fact, Knights and their families have already made a incredible difference in the lives of countless men, women and children affected by Hurricane Harvey with their prayers and support. And now it’s time to help the victims of Hurricane Irma.

When we work together, even the smallest contribution can make a big difference. And with 100 percent of  your donation going directly to relief efforts, you know your gift will get to those in need.

Please DONATE TODAY. by clicking on the link to the left.

Thanks for the link von. So often I outright refuse or hesitate on donations for this very reason. It is good to know that at least one group is using 100% of donated funds for the cause not for their own profit.

  2. vonMesser says:

Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, Lutheran Charities are also in the good category. Less than 5% overhead, more than 95% to the field.

Thanks for posting vM. The other bloodsucker is the United Way.

Also highly recommended, both for their efficient distribution of donations and for the number of people they actually send into the field to help: https://www.samaritanspurse.org/our-ministry/about-us/

4 out of 4 star rating from Charity Navigator: https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=4423

Thanks, vonM. Once we learn what our own immediate family needs from us, we’ll donate what we can.

Safe – once you learn what your immediate family down there needs, let us know. We may be able to toss a bag of old underwear or something that way too. (LOL)

  6. Kathy says:

Don’t give to the Red Cross, who took millions from Haiti

Thanks for this opportunity. I gave through my workplace with matching funds, but I believe the lion’s share went to Red Cross. I will donate to KC and attach a matching donation through work as well.
