Following Weinstein debacle, Evergreen State College president kowtows to student demands

It’s been a rather raucous week at Evergreen State College.
After it was revealed that Professor Bret Weinstein had objected to a college once-per-year racial apartheid event, students went berserk, screaming at him “This is not about you! We are not speaking on terms—on terms of white privilege!” … and that he should resign.
Weinstein ended up having to hold class off-campus because police said they couldn’t guarantee his safety.
The prof’s situation seems to be the head on the campus pimple, so to speak, as “months of protest and community dissatisfaction” culminated this week in a set of student demands.
It should come as little surprise that Evergreen President George Bridges — whom Weinstein told Carlson had effectively allowed “the mob to control the campus” — cowered before them.
The introduction of Bridge’s address, made at the campus Longhouse Education and Cultural Center, sets the tone: “I’m George Bridges, I use he/him pronouns.”

[Response to demands to disarm campus police:]
Annual training for police officers will be expanded because of the responsibility they hold and the critical services they provide to the college. The training will include techniques for safe and non-threatening engagement with students, addressing anti-black racism, de-escalation, minimizing use of force, serving trans and queer students, sexual assault response and responding to the access and special needs of students with disabilities. Private funding will be sought to support training.
We intend to retain a campus police force that understands and is responsive to the unique needs of our college campus.
[Response to demands for “mandatory sensitivity and cultural competency training” for all employees:]
Required training for all staff currently includes a review of the college’s non-discrimination policy. We commit to providing cultural competency, sensitivity, and anti-bias training in the training required of all staff. By requiring this training for all staff, we will also ensure that all search committee members are trained. We’re launching staff training in the fall and offering it throughout the year.
[Response to the demand for an “equity center”:]
Today we commit to establishing a new and expanded equity and multicultural center with design plans finalized for student review by the beginning of fall quarter this year. You will have the space that you seek and deserve.
The design of the center will be informed by students. Over the summer, we seek to hire students to design and plan for a new equity and multicultural center in collaboration with staff. They will be compensated for their time. A final plan for implementation will be developed following the work completed this summer.
Bridges also agreed to 1) a full-time coordinator of the Trans & Queer Center, 2) a position that “will support undocumented students” (if the legislature agrees to funding), 3) a new position to “to oversee student enrollment and retention at the College,” and 4) an increase to the budget of the First Peoples Multicultural Advising Services.
A couple of “bright spots” in his remarks include refusing the demand to fire Professor Weinstein, and a commitment that “every faculty member, every student, every staff member must have the freedom to speak openly about their views.”
However, with regards to Weinstein (and two other campus employees), Bridges notes “We do take complaints seriously. We have a college non-discrimination policy which applies to all members of our community. Following any complaint of discrimination, we will conduct a full investigation. If it is found that discrimination occurred, action is taken.”

Students harass white professor for refusing to leave campus on anti-white ‘Day of Absence’

Racism is alive and well at Evergreen State College – and its target is white people who refuse to apologize for being white.
Students at the Washington liberal arts school, whose main claim to fame is alumnus and Simpsons creator Matt Groening, harassed Biology Prof. Bret Weinstein because he refused to leave campus for the annual “Day of Absence” April 12, The Washington Times reports.
Incredibly, they are trying to get him fired.
Evergreen State practices explicit and institutional racial segregation once a year. Typically nonwhite students and faculty leave campus (to show how valuable they are) and the whites stay on campus (to be indoctrinated in “anti-racism workshops and seminars”), but this year it was reversed, and Weinstein told the director of a campus multicultural office that he was staying put.
Bay Area entrepreneur William Treseder posted Bret’s email to the diversity official, which said the mandatory absence of whites from campus was “a show of force, and an act of oppression in and of itself”:
You may take this letter as a formal protest of this year’s structure, and you may assume I will be on campus during the Day of Absence. … On a college campus, one’s right to speak – or to be – must never be based on skin color.
First – how stupid that those demanding whites kowtow to blacks are white.
Second – how did this go from being an on-campus complaint to having blacks shouting “Black Power” as a Black Panther display in one video.
Third – Stupid liberals – your boomerang is now returning to smack you in the empty cave you call a brain.
Fourth – As one video noted, this is getting so far out of hand that colleges and universities are not only hiring such fools as teachers and administrators but also that the “whiners” are so deeply entrenched in the communist agenda that they can not even see the absolute danger of what they are creating not only for themselves but the country at large.
Fifth – The total irresponsibility of the parents for allowing the colleges and universities to have produced such sickness within the minds of their children and the drain on their bank accounts in supporting this wasteful and disgusting education of young people. Need I remind you these are the supposed-to-be workers of the future who will one day be in your shoes — how will they take care of you as their parents, the sick, elderly, or general populace? I’m thinking that would be far and above a scarier movie than “Rise of Nazi Germany, “Nightmare on Elm Street” or “Night of the Living Dead”.
I know it has been forty year since I attended college; but, “d-yam-m-m-m-m” those who are the administration of these so-called “halls of learning” need to return their paychecks and forfeit their alphabet letters behind their names. They and their staff do not deserve the right to be called educators. Seems they only know how to do daycare work but I would not even trust them to do that well.
These places of higher learning need to be gutted and their accreditation dropped. Taxpayers need to demand the return of all federal dollars to the government and refuse any further grants, loans, or assistance at least until they can prove they have grown some gonads and are really teaching NOT indoctrinating into socialism, Islamic law, or any other -ism.
Parents PAY ATTENTION to your children’s education…apparently having them attend a higher institution of learning is not only costly financially to pay for now but a terrible waste of their minds and their future roles in life. Maybe try making them learn the hard way – WORK for their living and use online places like You Tube university free courses to expand their learning instead. Geez even online courses that one pays $400 or so for makes more sense given that we have so many examples of the utter waste and abuse going on now on campuses.
