Quote of the Day

“Let me warn you, and let me warn the nation, against the smooth evasion that says: “Of course we believe these things. We believe in social security. We believe in work for the unemployed. We believe in saving homes. Cross our hearts and hope to die! We believe in all these things. But we do not like the way that the present administration is doing them. Just turn them over to us. We will do all of them, we will do more of them, we will do them better and, most important of all, the doing of them will not cost anybody anything!”

Franklin D. Roosevelt

So the government has kept control of all these things, and the costs have increased, the quality of service has decreased; government power has increased and personal; rights have decreased.  But you get the idea.

  1. vonMesser says:

Like all democrats, FDR is making the statement “Do not touch what I (we) have done because as a democrat it is perfect and nothing can ever improve on perfection.” We can’t fix it if it doesn’t work, and it must be enshrined into law and custom forever and ever, amen.

  2. What’s different from today? They do things that don’t work and don’t want anybody but progressives to change it so government never shrinks! That has to change! This Republican Congress needs to get some backbone and start acting like Republicans and take ownership of what they want to do and accept the consequences of doing so. They have been paralyzed for years by an unwillingness to accept responsibility for what they do and always let Democrats frame the discussions. Mitch McConnell needs to grow a pair of balls and lead dammit, he is an anchor to the legislative agenda and a poor leader against Chuck Schumer, a man I detest but I have to respect his ability to be a leader for the Democrats. We need to find someone on the Republican side who is as good or better to go against him. It’s not Mitch McConnell, who is a spineless wimp at best.
