    After 12 or 13 months in Vietnam everyone’s eyes were glazed over. We called it the 1000 yard stare.

          First one – the night I arrived. They blew up the barracks next to mine.

            After about the third attack, I just stayed in my bunk. I needed the sleep and just pretended I didn’t hear anything. Probably safer there than out running around anyway. On New Years eve 1968 the drunks decided to light things up at midnight.
            Now that was scary. F’n idiots.
