In St Louis, Missouri, Billy Dean Dickerson, 19, of St. Louis died Thursday morning when he and Perry A. Richardson, 23, tried to rob a 70-year-old man who was dropping off a friend at her house, police said. The man is a Vietnam War veteran from St. Louis. The veteran and his friend were sitting in his car when Dickerson pulled his vehicle up next to the driver’s side, police said. Richardson, who was sitting in the passenger seat, pulled out his gun and demanded money. The veteran pulled out his gun and fired, hitting Dickerson in the head. Police pronounced him DRT.
In Houston, Texas, Authorities say a business owner was leaving J&S Barbecue on Houston’s northeast side after closing up Saturday night when two men jumped out from behind a garbage bin and tried to rob him as he was getting into his car. The store owner, identified only as a man in his 70s, told police he’d been robbed before after leaving for the night so he was carrying a gun. He shot at the pair. One of the men was hit in the throat and chest and died DOT at a hospital. The second robber fled.
In Los Angeles, a young man and his father, Francisco Suarez Sr., 44, told investigators that the two robbers came into their Edding Drive home, a cul-de-sac off Mount Vernon Street, about 2 a.m. The intruders held the homeowner and his son at gunpoint. There was a struggle over a gun, and the homeowner’s son was shot once in the torso. Then the homeowner shot one of the intruders. The perp was DRT.
In Ilion, New York, a homeowner, James M. Richards, suffered injuries to his head and extremities during the Dec. 7 incident, police said. Dasean Chastine, 24, of Utica, was identified as an intruder and was found DOT lying in the driveway. Ilion police said the deceased intruder was armed with a handgun. The homeowner was treated and released from a local hospital.
In Little Rock, Arkansas, victims told police [18-year-old Alexander Reed] arrived at the apartment with an unknown man Tuesday night, and the stranger let two other men into the home, according to a news release. Once inside, of the men pulled out a handgun and said, “This is a robbery,” officials said. As the gunman started shooting, Muller told police he took out his handgun and returned fire. “Obviously … you do have the right to defend yourself,” [Police Department spokesman Lt. Steve McClanahan] said. During the exchange, Reed was DRT. Authorities were later notified of a Pine Bluff man, 21-year-old Alvin Chaffin, being treated at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in that city for a gunshot wound to his hand. After talking with witnesses, investigators were able to link Chaffin to the shooting and they believe he is one of the men who was with Reed, police said.
