Sanctuary Jurisdictions Protect Nearly 12,000 Criminal Illegal Immigrants in 19 Months

The recent murder committed by a twice-deported illegal immigrant gangbanger in a Maryland sanctuary county makes the following information both enraging and unbelievable; nearly 12,000 illegal immigrants with criminal histories were protected from federal authorities by sanctuary jurisdictions in the U.S. during a 19-month period, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) figures obtained by the Washington D.C.-based Center for Immigration Studies (CIS).

A few weeks ago CIS published a map identifying about 300 jurisdictions that have official policies shielding illegal aliens from federal authorities. During a 19-month stretch from January 1, 2014, to September 30, 2015, more than 17,000 federal detainers were rejected by these sanctuary jurisdictions, CIS found. Around 11,800 of the detainers, or 68%, were issued for individuals with a prior criminal history. “According to ICE statistics, since the Obama administration implemented the new Priority Enforcement Program in July 2015 restricting ICE use of detainers, the number of rejected detainers has declined,” CIS writes in a report accompanying the map. “However, the number of detainers issued by ICE also has declined in 2016, so it is not clear if the new policies are a factor.”

The bottom line is that hundreds of local governments across the nation shield illegal immigrants from the feds, even when they have engaged in criminal activity. In some cases they go on to commit heinous crimes that receive widespread media attention. Judicial Watch has reported many of them and launched investigations, obtaining public records from the jurisdictions that protected the criminal aliens.

Obama Administration Rewards Sanctuary Cities That Shield Violent Illegal Immigrants

You and I are less safe on the streets these days because President Barack Obama and his Justice Department reward localities that openly break the law. Our Corruption Chronicles blog has the disturbing story:

“The Obama Administration rewards sanctuary states, counties and cities that shield violent illegal immigrants from deportation with hundreds of millions of dollars in federal grants and one of the biggest recipients recently made headlines for protecting a serial criminal who murdered a young woman.

“The money flows through the Department of Justice (DOJ), the agency responsible for enforcing the law and defending the interests of the United States. The DOJ is also charged with providing federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime, according to its mission statement, and seeking just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior.

“Apparently this doesn’t apply to local governments that support the president’s broad open borders policies, even when they violate federal law. The DOJ doled out $342,168,401 to 10 sanctuary states and cities that proudly reject federal claims for criminal illegal aliens earmarked for removal, according to the agency’s independent watchdog.

“Last year Judicial Watch obtained records showing that violent crime—including murder and rape—in the Bay area has skyrocketed since the San Francisco Sheriff and City Council expanded illegal alien sanctuary policies in 2013. Under the ordinance San Francisco law enforcement agencies are required to ignore most U.S. Immigration and “Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers. Judicial Watch is also investigating whether the city violated the law again with its sanctuary policy that led to the release of Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, an illegal immigrant deported five times who gunned down Kate Steinle at one of the most popular tourist spots in San Francisco.

“Two cities—New York and Chicago—got $60,091,942 and $28,523,222 respectively from the DOJ and Philadelphia followed with $16,505,312. South Florida’s Miami-Dade County received $10,778,815, Milwaukee, Wisconsin got $7,539,572, Cook County, Illinois $6,018,544, Clark County, Nevada $6,257,9851 and Orleans Parish, Louisiana $4,737,964.

…The good news is the Justice Department IG agrees with Judicial Watch’s legal concerns about sanctuary cities – concerns that we have sued repeatedly over (most recently in San Francisco).  In city after city, the IG concludes that sanctuary policies that tie the hands of police cooperation with the feds on immigration matters are “inconsistent with the plain language of Section 1373 [federal law] prohibiting a local government from restricting a local official from sending immigration status information to ICE.”

Because of this IG analysis – and most importantly pressure from Congressman John Culbertson (R-TX) – the Obama Justice Department reversed course and is now requiring recipients of Justice Department grant monies to certify that they are complying with federal immigration law.  Cities with sanctuary policies can’t do this – so the spigot of tax dollars for this lawlessness may actually be turned off finally.

And yet, the practice continues.  This Administration has become so blatantly obvious in its thwarting and disrespecting our laws that they are no longer even denying the charges.  January 2017 can not come soon enough unless Hillary finds a way to buy into the oval office in which case we are screwed.

There is a much easier way: Texas Governor Abbott suggested this:
Idiots are trying to fight Our Gov. saying, “It isn’t Constitutional”. You idiots! They INVADED A COUNTRY!
    Texas Governor Harboring Illegals Felony
Gov. Greg Abbott signed the bill, known as HB 11, into law by last year as part of an $800 million border security effort undertaken by the Legislature. Under one provision of HB 11, people who profit from, encourage or induce a person to enter or stay in the country illegally “by concealing, harboring, or shielding that person from detection” can be charged with various felony degrees. The charges depend on the age of the immigrant and whether he or she becomes victim of sexual assault or other crimes.
The bill also creates the new crime of “continuous harboring” of immigrants for 10 days or more.

Texas Gov. Suggested anyone Hiring an Illegal should receive a fine of $25,000 per Illegal. If they are housed, the fine goes up to $50,000.
I have written to my Gov. about the Liberal Judge who thinks we should allow Illegals to come here anytime they want to. The Judge is breaking a law that was never changed. It was ignored. Get him kicked off the bench.

What if the cities simply lied? There doesn’t seem to be a penalty for it anymore.

The veto over ride of the bill allowing victims of 9/11 may have unexpected consequences.
If it is now allowable for victims of violence to sue a sovereign that backed and supported the act of violence, then surely the sovereign ruler of this country may also be sued for acts of violence against citizens by illegal alien criminals he aided and abetted.

    • Uriel says:

distinct possibility. However, it follows at least to me that the paying parties found to be for in money, housing, or weapons to INVADE another country should be brought up at international court and forced to pay for damages and loss of life. The country to whom they belong should receive some sort of short, soft sanction for not controlling their people or if the country is found to be part and working with criminal records to prove they were involved in the problem should receive heavy sanctions. Isn’t that what happened with the Nuremberg trials?

  7. vonMesser says:

How about “Any police agency that does not verify the citizenship of any person arrested shall be fined the totality of federal funding to that agency for the remainder of the fiscal year?

  8. Just Gene says:

I’m sorry but on my previous comment I meant a mandatory five years for the person who hired the illegals including the CEOs of any company where illegals are found working.

    • Uriel says:

Now Gene. How would the company survive. I would go for a penalty quarterly fee of say 20% of company total payroll paid until corrected for first year. After that then do the jail time next offense.

      • Just Gene says:

“Your a better man than I am Gunga Din” or rather, your a nicer person than I am Uriel. that’s why I

        • Uriel says:

Lol. Not really. That set of penalties could fund local food banks or united way. a million in payroll hit with 20% quarterly could help lots of local social groups. Of course there is the prospect they would abuse saying it helps social programs but the second offense would be a bummer.
