Principal holds up student election results because winners not diverse enough

From:,  by Todd Starnes,  on Oct 20, 2015,  see the article HERE.

There’s a big election controversy at a California middle school after the principal discovered that not enough black or Latino students were elected to office.

Principal Lena Van Haren’s decision to withhold the results of the student government elections angered parents and students at Everett Middle School in San Francisco.

“It’s not okay for a school that is really, really diverse to have the student representatives majority white,” she told the San Francisco Chronicle. “The easy thing would have been to announce the results and move on. I intentionally did not choose the easy way because this is so important.”

There were no allegations of voter intimidation or voter fraud. There were no reports of hanging chads. And there were no incidents involving ballot boxes that malfunctioned. So what was the problem?

According to the newspaper, there were no “English learners” among the winners. I’m assuming that’s what they’re calling kids who don’t speak a lick of English these days.

Black and Latino students were underrepresented as well.

There were no allegations of voter intimidation or voter fraud. There were no reports of hanging chads. And there were no incidents involving ballot boxes that malfunctioned. So what was the problem?

The problem, it appears, is that the principal didn’t like who got the most votes. In other words – too many white kids got elected.

For the record, white, Asian and mixed-race students were the highest vote getters, the newspaper reported.

The principal held the election results for more than a week – and then sent a note to parents about how to have a more representative government.

“This is complex, but as a parent and a principal, I truly believe it behooves us to be thoughtful about our next steps here so we have a diverse student council that is truly representative of all voices at Everett,” she wrote in a message to moms and dads.

So the principal seems to think that boys and girls should vote for representatives based on the color of their skin and not the content of their character?

“I feel like it is disrespectful to all the people who were running,” student Sebastian Kaplan told television station KRON. “The whole school voted for those people, so it is not like people rigged the game, but in a way – now it is kind of being rigged.”

The principal defended her un-American behavior by explaining that she just wanted to promote diversity.

“This is middle school – it’s not a presidential election,” she said. “It was not about hurting democracy or putting diversity over democracy.”

The school district called the entire electoral mess a “learning opportunity.”

And it should be a learning opportunity. I hope Principal Van Haren will immediately enroll in a Civics class and a U.S. Government class.

Meanwhile, school administrators are meeting later this week to consider how to get more non-white kids involved in politics. One idea, the principal suggested, is to just add more student government positions.

Now that sounds like something the federal government would do.

Principal Van Haren told the Chronicle that she just wants everyone’s voice to be heard. But that doesn’t make sense to kids like Sebastian.

“The organizers are saying things like, ‘we want everyone’s voice to be heard,’ but in truth, the voters’ voices are not being heard,” the seventh grader told KRON.

Sorry, Sebastian. But in today’s progressive America – diversity trumps democracy.

Since no one, not even the principal, has suggested that the election results were fraudulent, why can’t the principal accept the vote as being the “will of the students”? There’s a simple answer to that question – she is a typical San Francisco liberal and the results were not the results she wanted to see.

According to O’Reilly’s show (which featured this assault on an honest election) the student body is 60% Hispanic, 20% black, and 20% white. So, apparently, the “kids of color” chose CHOSE to vote for white students. Wasn’t that their option? But in typical liberal fashion, since the election results didn’t satisfy Principal Van Haren’s idea of a properly diverse group, she planned to nullify the results.

UPDATE: On O’reilly’s show it was announced that the principal has relented and will not declare the election void. Apparently, the outcry from the few remaining reasonable people in San Francisco convinced her that maybe – just maybe – she was in error. It sounds like her solution will be a form of affirmative action wherein she’ll create a few new positions that will be reserved for “middle schoolers of color.” It’s apparently just impossible for liberals to keep from meddling.

Boo! Hiss! Wanna bet of that majority Hispanic at least a third were classed illegally in country? I think it’s more an ADULT break from reality than kids. Haven’t seen too many class elections over the years that weren’t stacked in favor of one student or other (usually most popular or most bully). Geez. Maybe an attitude readjustment in teaching profession is called for.

The principal is just totally immersed in liberal dogma. In her world, whites have had privilege for too long and it’s time to swing the pendulum in the direction of another group – regardless of whether they can speak English or not – or whether they’re here illegally or not. In her mind, whites will never be free of the imagined sins of the past and deserve to be taken down a notch – sounds like Obama, right?

      • Uriel says:

Yep. It’s something in the water there or maybe one of the vortexes warping minds. Cali seems to get a lot of strange people who are not in touch with reality.

You said it – libs can never be satisfied that the procedure is good and accept the results as is – they always have to try and influence the politics and the outcome.

What the brainiac principal doesn’t understand is that the election results did indeed show diversity. If the white kids are only 20% of the population and they still elected white kids, then she got her diversity. She didn’t recognize it because, in this case, it’s white.

    • Garnet92 says:

I disagree with one point Kathy – that the principal didn’t recognize the diverse result of the election – I think that she recognized it, she just didn’t like it.

Believe it or not this crap has been going on for over 60 years. An old friend of mine was elected class treasurer back in the Fifth Grade. But since the teacher didn’t like him she told him, “You will be treasurer but (name) will hold the class’ money.”

    • Garnet92 says:

Do the term “teacher’s pet” (or “pets”) mean anything?

      • captbogus2 says:

Oh, yeah. Actually I now feel sorry for the teacher’s pet because they had a hard time of it at recess or really hard time if they rode a bike or walked to school (like we all used to do a lot).

Here’s what’s interesting to me about this fiasco. If a principal created WHITE positions, that would be a completely outrageous example of racism, and condemned so loudly everyone would go deaf in the uproar.

But, hey……… since those positions are being created for NON-WHITES, no problemo.

Leftist hypocrisy in action, and so commonplace that no one even blinks an eye at it.

  5. Garnet92 says:

Oh Brian, your comment is much too logical and accurate to be understood by the left – it’ll just swoosh over their heads. Hypocritical perfectly describes this lefty principal.

    • BrianR says:

Well, you know what I often say about leftists: the only way to buy into their ideology is to check all logic and understanding of human nature at the door.

      • captbogus2 says:

The most maddening thing about a liberal teacher was if you refuted an argument with a quote from law or even the Constitution and they would look down their nose at you and say something like, “That’s not what they meant.” or maybe, “That’s not what it says.”
I aced Economics 101 and was into 102 when the Ec teacher and I got into it on Social Security. Same teacher, same student but all of a sudden my grades dropped from A to D. Almost overnight.

I guess when they held the elections they should have said, “Whites need not apply.”

This one incident beautifully highlights so much of what’s wrong with liberalism. First we have an elitist liberal deciding that the students aren’t capable of choosing who they want – the elitist liberal knows better. Check! Then we have the irony of discriminating against white students to promote “diversity.” Check! (Today’s lesson: it’s always okay to discriminate against whites). Next we have our standard liberal hypocrisy, as the elitist principle who wants diversity is white as a roll of toilet paper herself. Check! Finally we have an elitist liberal overseeing education and making a priority of something that has zero to do with education, which is why education in the U.S. is failing (like everything else the liberals own). Checkmate.

Why do we even have student government? It’s a huge waste of valuable time and typically amounts to nothing more than a silly popularity contest. There is no lesson to be learned in it because, as Ms. Van Haren just demonstrated, the liberals in charge cannot be trusted with it. Teachers like it because it reduces the amount of time they have to work.

    • Uriel says:

The total irony most Blacks and others (including conservatives forget — has anyone at all noticed that the greatest number of ones determined to spout the greatest liberalist garbage are White?? It seems THOSE are the ones most determined to subjugate everyone not just those whites they consider beneath them. Don’t get me wrong a few are Black but they are usually following orders of a leader. People following these socialists and communists need to really read their propaganda for its message. Nothing in this world is given for free. Most of us can relate to that on a daily basis. Hmmmmm.

  7. I saw this on Fox last night and about puked. How far are these idiots going to go with “identity politics”? The teacher needs the boot if you ask me.

  8. vonMesser says:

So, whites can vote for blacks, but blacks are not allowed to vote for whites?
Sounds like “Black votes Don’t Matter”
