War in the Senate: McConnell Scuttles Cruz Amendments

Reid and McConnell

What’s the difference? Reid & McConnell or McConnell & Reid? Both cut from the same cloth.

Texas Senator and Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said that Senate Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) blocked amendments to defund Planned Parenthood, end the Congressional exemption to Obamacare and for Kate’s Law on Friday’s “Mark Levin Show.”

Cruz, after re-iterating his charges that McConnell lied about whether there was a deal regarding Trade Promotion Authority and the Export-Import Bank, stated, “Now, let me tell you all the amendments Mitch McConnell blocked because he wants to reauthorize this corporate welfare and cronyism. He blocked my amendment to defund Planned Parenthood. In the wake of these gruesome videos, where they appear to admit to multiple felonies, we should be defunding them, and we should defund them this week.

He blocked my amendment to repeal the Congressional exception from Obamacare. He doesn’t want a vote on that. It’s another of example of cronyism, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) and the Obama administration exempted Congress from the plain language from Obamacare.

He blocked amendments to end sanctuary cities, to cut off funding. He blocked my amendment for Kate’s Law, mandatory minimum five years for an illegal alien convicted of illegal re-entry. And he blocked also my amendment saying that no Iranian sanctions can be lifted unless and until Iran recognizes Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state, and releases the four American hostages they’re holding.”

He added that all of those are issues that matter to the American people, but they “don’t matter to the lobbyists in Washington.” Cruz also pointed to a tweet sent by Reid praising McConnell’s action on the Export-Import Bank before declaring, “It’s one party, it’s the McConnell-Reid leadership team, and they fight for the same priorities.”

Cruz added that everything the new Republican Congress has done so far is “exactly what Harry Reid would have done” and wondered how the GOP leadership’s and Democratic leadership’s priorities differed.

Damn tootin’ those things DO matter to most Americans! Regardless of your personal view of Sen. Cruz, he is finally exposing the devious and deceitful activities by Senate Leader McConnell, the guy that WE, with our 2014 votes, put into that position to reform the previous devious and deceitful actions by the democrats and Senate Leader Reid. And now what have we got? The same kind of corrupt “leadership” except that McConnell has an “R” by his name. McConnell is every bit as corrupt with his power to manage legislation as Harry Reid was.

This is what we, the people, perceive is wrong with Washington. Our Congress is no longer doing the people’s work – they’re doing what’s best for themselves and their lobbyist funding sources. They’re cutting deals among themselves to support each other’s pet projects and vying for controlling positions on legislation, all the while completely ignoring the well-being of the country.

Thank God for Cruz and Trump. Between them, they are exposing the taboo subjects that (according to our Congress) are not suitable for public discourse. We’re being shown the sordid scheming that goes on behind closed doors and, like roaches scurrying from the light, the senators don’t like being exposed.

Senator McConnell apparently believes that Planned Parenthood is a noble and honorable enterprise and is worthy of receiving over $500 million dollars annually, and that Congress should continue to exempt itself from the full force of Obamacare, and that sanctuary cities should continue to provide safe havens for illegal aliens who’ve been convicted of felonies and it’s ok to throw Israel under the bus when it comes to our latest BFF, Iran. And what about our countrymen held hostage? Are we supposed to just forget them to keep “peace” with our BFF Iran?

Weren’t things supposed to be different after we returned Republicans to power in the Senate? Now we’ve got majorities in the House and the Senate and what has changed?

My friends, we’ve placed our trust in the wrong people.

Indeed we have. Remember that McConnell only got back in through some trickery in KY. He barely got through the primaries.

As we opine often, it’s amazing how so many run on conservative pledges then tack left on arrival in DC. Cruz often talks about the republican special interest cabal. He’s right. I’m glad he has chosen to expose it. The cabal no doubt is sharpening their daggers.

Cruz and Trump are the only ones talking about special interest in DC and how they are all bought and paid for.

Ted Cruz isn’t the only one ticked off at McConnell. Apparently Rand Paul also had an amendment to defund PP and said this –

“This morning I received news that my amendment to next week’s highway bill to stop all taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood would NOT be voted on.

Instead, some of my colleagues would rather vote on the Export-Import Bank — one of the biggest drivers of corruption and cronyism in Washington, D.C. — and sweep my amendment under the rug.

As far as I’m concerned, this is flat-out unacceptable. And I’m not going to stand for it. Instead, I’m prepared to use every Senate rule at my disposal to force my colleagues on record whether they like it or not.”

Also Senator Mike Lee has plans to repeal O’care in the works, so McConnell may have a few battles on his hands today.

  3. Grouchy says:

It is my humble, not-so-edamacated opinion that one way to start to cure this mess is a 12 year limit on congressional service. That would be two Senate terms, and six House terms. NO APPEAL. And no re-election after a “sit-out” period.

Further, ethics rules need to be strengthened, that such crap as mcconnell is pulling is ruled unethical and unacceptable.

Dear Mitch – why don’t you just change the R to a D after your name?

Time for a sting on good old boy Mitch. Get a video of him lining his pockets and get rid of him
