From The ” Green Energy Fraud” File For May 29 2015

We were ALL told the Tesla automobile from Elon Musk ( this guy is a modern day con artist extraordinaire) was going to be a MARVEL of “fossil-fuel free” engineering.

I never did see ANY asterisk for what you are about to read. Story from Anthony Watts at

Almost Friday Funny – Tesla is apparently recharging ’emissions free’ electric cars with a diesel generator

Bishop Hill points us to this video of the Tesla Supercharging station at the Harris Ranch exit of Interstate 5 in California. He writes: “How can one resist posting a video of Tesla electric cars being recharged (so it is claimed) using a diesel generator? These people love the environment you see.”

The video shows a portable diesel generator next to the charging station and some Tesla automobiles. Watch this short video:

The video is captioned: Teslas charging off a diesel generator behind the Harris Ranch battery swap station. Filmed by Edward Niedermeyer on 5/22/2015 at Harris Ranch, CA as part of Daily Kanban’s investigation into Tesla’s battery swap program.

At first I thought maybe this was simply a backup generator for power outages, then I dug deeper. It seems the charging station is a converted car wash at the Shell gas station there. It turns out that it is not just a charging station, but also a battery swap station, part of  Tesla’s much touted battery swap program. What I learned was that there were pictures showing how the station works, taken during construction, here are a couple:

Note the exit:

From the article:

Tesla has approximated each battery swap to take on average of 3 minutes through the use of robots and pneumatics.

The construction eliminated the smaller door, replacing it with a vent, making the larger door the exit for the battery swap program..[Upon further inspection, the roll-up door may remain. I can’t tell for certain. This may be simply a change in lighting between photos that make the door appear darker in one photo.]

Now, it occurs to me that if the battery swap station were working as advertised, there would not be a diesel generator blocking the exit door as shown below:

So much for “emissions free” driving.

Tesla Battery Swap Unused Over Busy Holiday Weekend

Time lapse footage of Tesla’s battery swap station not being used during the busiest driving holiday of the year. Also visible: two backup Superchargers hooked up to a Doosan diesel generator. Filmed by Edward Niedermeyer at Harris Ranch, CA on Saturday, May 23 2015 as part of Daily Kanban’s investigation of Tesla’s battery swap program.

In response to a wide range of questions about Tesla’s battery swap program, raised primarily by Alberto Zaragoza Comendador of the blog Doubting Is Thinking, Daily Kanban has conducted an online and on-the-ground inquiry into Tesla’s battery swap program that failed to alleviate our concerns that the electric car maker’s battery swap capability exist largely as a way to maximize California ZEV credit revenue.  A four-day investigation of Tesla’s only battery swap station over the Memorial Day weekend revealed no evidence that the station is actually being used to swap customer batteries. Though our investigation did not conclusively prove that the station is not being used at all, it is yet another data point in a large and growing body of evidence indicating that Tesla is not serious about deploying battery swap as a viable option for customers. If this shit wasn’t costing WE, THE TAXPAYERS, so much money, it would be hilarious. One thing about leftists. They ALL, sooner or later, get caught up in their lies and deceit. So much for the EXPENSIVE, and, as this CLEARLY shows,  Teslas are still dependent on FOSSIL FUELS for recharging. This car is obviously  NOT the panacea the left, from Musk, and Obama The Corrupt on down to DiCaprio, and other assorted idiots, tried to tell us it was.

Got a hunch there are some heads rolling at Musk’s compound over this. Unless, of course, his bud, and financier, Obama The Corrupt steps in, and “saves the day” by lying further about this plastic bananamobile.

CLYDE. Thoroughly enjoying watching the lunatic left hoist themselves on their own petard.

Oh, Clyde! There’s a perfectly reasonable explanation for this. Tesla car owners only drive those cars to events to receive Greenie awards. Otherwise they use their Hummers, or charter a jet.

  2. Buck says:

Kinda reminds me of another brilliant idea. You pump water up into a tank where it then drains back down running through a turbine that turns a generator that produces electricity to run the water pump to pump the water back up…
I spent hours trying to convince a good friend I once worked with this wouldn’t work…

    • Clyde says:

Seem s like the left does that a LOT, Buck. Thanks.

    • Gary Hill says:

Buck – water pumped back up stream serves an important purpose in our area. During evenings, the hydro-generated electricity creates excess power that’d otherwise not get use, but for running water pumps “back up to the reservoir – and only during only during night time, is water pumped back up to the higher elevation/reservoir. With insufficient water coming in from even higher elevation into the reservoir – there wouldn’t be enough water to supply day time use.

I like your website, but in this case your headline and article are misleading.

The chargers and the battery swap are two different things, and at the Harris Ranch location they are physically across the street from each other. I drive the I-5 quite often and have for the past 8 years. I can tell you that the charging stations are often occupied by Teslas (Harris Ranch is quite busy as it is basically the midway point between LA and San Francisco).

The battery swap program is a completely separate issue which does not involve recharging and is described here:

“Starting next week, we will pilot a pack swap program with invited Model S owners. They will be given the opportunity to swap their car’s battery at a custom-built facility located across the street from the Tesla Superchargers at Harris Ranch, CA. This pilot program is intended to test technology and assess demand.”

    • Clyde says:

Bill, thanks for stopping by and “enlightening” me on the Tesla Harris Ranch location. I do agree with you that Hill’s choice of weekends to drive by this place was erroneous. Bishop Hill is usually pretty good with his information. My ONLY beef with Tesla is the HUGE amounts of subsidies WE, THE TAXPAYERS doled out to Musk to build these things, then we find out he is making NO money off car sales, but rather by selling carbon credits. I still find it ironic they would use a fossil-fueled generator. Why would Musk and Tesla management see the OBVIOUS hypocrisy in that ? Why did they not build a solar array at the location to power the recharge station? Hell, they COULD have received ANOTHER taxpayer subsidy from the Regime for THAT as well. I stand by my headline.

  4. Kathy says:

Only in Leftyland does it make sense to pay more for a car that you have to plug in, than what you pay for a gas fueled car.

  5. Hardnox says:

Good post Clyde. Nothing to add other than I agree with your disgust in the subsidies and the hypocrisy in general.

    • Clyde says:

Thanks, Boss. I do not give a hoot in hell who wants to build what. Just DO IT WITH YOUR OWN MONEY. NOT ours. If you build a better mousetrap, someone WILL buy it.

  6. Gary Hill says:

Oh the ‘subsidy’ irony. We’re running trillions in military debt to subsidize keeping our oil flowing. No one cries a lick. But here we are – trying to jump start transportation alternatives that cost less than 1/1,000 of 1% of THAT kind of debt – and folks freak out. This is NOT a leftie/righty thing. My parents both worked in the military industrial complex and as a kid it was fearful to think they’d get “laid off” during Vietnam wind down. Now that I’m older, I realize yea – you need to keep a big stick ready for the world’s crazies … but you do NOT need to be able to blow the entire world up 5x over … nor have more than 2x the military might as all the other armies in the world … just to keep shell oil stock high, and people working in the bomb and aircraft factories. We hope to be able to save up enough for a Tesla by next year … and we work our back side off to be able to do it … hopefully (and collaterally) a less expensive long range EV will be a byproduct of increased production, for the less industrious folk. Remember, all that fracked surplus won’t last for ever.

    • Clyde says:

Gary, welcome to H&F. The last I looked, we aren’t “subsidizing” the protection of oil fields HERE. I agree we can cut the Middle East out, screw them, they’ve got ENOUGH money to defend themselves. Maybe if they had to spend some of it on their OWN defense, they would not have enough left to subsidize terrorists. I’m also very much FOR cutting waste and fraud out of the DoD. That being said, military expenditures are a Constitutional requirement, where as subsidizing “green energy” is NOT. Enjoy that Tesla. If you smell smoke, GET THE HELL OUT of the car. Thanks for stopping to read, and comment.
