If Parents Opt Out of Common Core, Feds Will Force Them Back In

Right Wing News:

So, if you parents think that you have some measure of control over your children’s education, Obama’s Secretary of Indoctrination wants you to know that all your kids belong to Obama and his Common Core Scheme.

Ed Sec Arnie Duncan–an old Chicago hack and Obama buddy–is warning states that they better stop this drive away from Common Core. He also warns that if this business where parents and local citizens think they have control over education continues, why, Obama is going to come down like a ton of bricks on all of you. You better drop that silly notion that your kids belong to you, America.

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan issued a veiled threat to the parents and students who choose to opt out of Common Core testing – The Feds “have an obligation to step in.”

Federal law, under No Child Left Behind, requires 95 percent of students in a state to take the annual standardized tests in reading and math from grades 3-8. It is a requirement which until now has never needed enforcement or consideration.

With as many as 184,000 students in New York choosing to opt out, the 95 percent threshold will not only be in jeopardy, it will be an easily missed mark.

When asked what would happen in states with such a high opt out rate, whether they would have to force consequences upon schools, parents, and students, Duncan responded “We think most states will do that.”

Remember, America, your children belong to Obama.

It’s more than just a veiled threat – for clarification here are Duncan’s exact words via the Daily Caller:

When asked what would happen in states with such a high opt out rate, whether they would have to force consequences upon schools, parents, and students, Duncan responded “We think most states will do that. If states don’t do that, then we have an obligation to step in.”

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said at a Q&A in Chicago Tuesday ‘widespread student boycotts of standardized tests are not acceptable, and if state governments don’t stop them, the federal government will.’

Duncan didn’t elaborate on what the federal intervention might look like. It could, however, involve labeling districts with too many opt-outs as “failing,” a status that places restrictions on how schools use federal money. This would in turn pressure state government and school districts to roll back parental opt-out rights.

Duncan maintained the Obama Administration’s position that standardized tests are crucial for both tracking students’ progress and keeping tabs on the achievement gaps between certain groups.

“Boycotts are not acceptable…Most states will do that…We will step in.”  Funny, I don’t see their authority anywhere in our Constitution and isn’t it interesting that he threatens the states (funding) but not directly threaten the parents. He knows where his power lies.

Our schools haven’t actually been educating our kids for a long time – instead they’re memorizing info to pass a test. It’s brainwashing 101 and that’s apparent when I see my third-grade grandchild unable to do simple math, but she can sing a song in an unrecognizable language & not know what it means.

To quote a fourth grader “This testing looks at me as a number. One test defines me as either a failure or a success through a numbered rubric. One test at the end of the year that the teacher or myself will not even see the grade until after the school year is already over. I do not feel that all this FSA testing is accurate to tell how successful I am. It doesn’t take in account all of my knowledge and abilities, just a small percentage.”

If it sometimes feels like the feds are coming at us from all sides, it’s because they are.

It is very clear that the feds couldn’t care one whit what the states want and never mind the Constitution. A whole industry could be made filing one lawsuit after the other against the feds for unconstitutional overreach.

That Duncan has this dictatorial ‘there’s nothing you can do about it’ attitude is what’s so aggravating. What the people want doesn’t matter to them.

He was hand picked by O. No doubt about his sexual leanings he has a lot if programs for this and. Do states No longer have a say?

It’s how any ideology best takes over from another. Grassroots education. Also 1 of several reasons I retired early

Number 17 on the communist agenda – control the schools and soften the curriculum. I’d say they’re rapidly accomplishing their goal.

How dare parents demand schools educate – that’s not their job – it’s to indoctrinate.

Unless the parents band together and create some kind of firestorm about this, they will continue to steamroll our kids. They’ve already got them drawing maps for communist countries, hosting burka day for the girls, etc, etc. It’s disgusting what they’re teaching and also what they’re leaving out.

States lost their power long ago when the federal government ended up with all the money. Then the feds helped states with their *ahem* education cost problem which is not the problem at all. IT is pensions for teachers which are criminal in that they recieve defined benefits when private companies stopped that high cost unsustainable rip off 40 years ago.

    Back to education.
That’s of course not what this is about. It’s about power. Communism. Yes, indoctrination.

Thanks for this post, Kathy. It’s great.
