The “Illegals Pay Taxes Too” Argument

From Godfather Politics:

One of the mainstays of the Democrat agenda that must be completed prior to Obama’s exit is the legalizing of illegal aliens. And as if right on cue, the Fiscal Times via Yahoo Finance has presented proof that immigrants, despite being undocumented, are contributing a portion of their (ill-gotten) income to paying their fair share.

The article is entitled “Study finds illegal immigrants pay 11.8 billion in taxes.” The Fiscal Times cites “A new nationwide study on the fiscal implications of illegal immigration concludes that millions of undocumented immigrants are paying billions of dollars in taxes into state and local coffers, and that substantially more would be generated if president Obama prevails in imposing a new executive order protecting many of these workers from deportation.”

“The 50 state analysis by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy . . . found that roughly 8.1 million of the 11.4 million undocumented immigrants who work paid more than $11.8 billion in state and local taxes in 2012, even while they were living illegally in the country.”

What happened to being in the shadows and how can we deport them when we can’t find them? They evidently found them long enough to calculate their tax contribution.

Anyway, $11.8 billion sounds pretty substantial and “The group’s analysis estimated that illegal immigrants combined nationwide state and local tax contributions would increase by $845 million under full implementation of Obama’s 2012 and 2014 executive actions and by $2.2 billion under comprehensive immigration reform.”

So if we just legalize them, we’ll reap the benefit of an additional $14 billion. That’s a great deal, except that it isn’t — not by a stretch. The left is predictable if nothing else. They always seem to leave out how much this tax benefit will cost the rest of us.

In 2010 Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation did a cost/benefit analysis on illegals to find that on average an illegal immigrant family “got $24,728 in government benefits and services, including public schooling for their children, while paying an average of $10,334 in taxes.”

Forbes reported that “a 2011 report by Jack Martin and Eric Ruark of the Federation for American Immigration Reform estimated that illegal immigrants are costing state and local governments around $80 billion per year currently.” wrote of the healthcare burden: “During the budgets 2014-2019, in which Medicaid expansion takes effect, covering 3.1 million amnestied immigrants would conservatively cost taxpayers $48.6 billion.” That’s just Medicaid!

But don’t fret just yet, for I have an idea to help offset the additional cost burden to us all.

Since the creation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in 2003, the budget of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the parent agency of the border patrol within DHS has doubled from $5.9 billion to $11.9 billion per year.

Now add in the I.C.E. budget which is about $5.9 billion annually and we get $17.8 billion total. Let’s round that up to $18 billion.

Since we no longer have a border, we hardly need border security and given that I.C.E. is no longer allowed to “round anyone up” for deportation, we can use that $18 billion a year to help offset the cost of keeping all the hard-working undocumented Democrats right where they belong — in the grand ole US of A.

Problem solved — Viva America!

I can appreciate his sarcasm and even if his plan were to work , we’d still be $62 billion short. If they were costing us $80 billion in 2010, no doubt it’s higher than that today. If all of them work until they’re 110 years old, they still couldn’t pay enough in taxes to offset the massive expense they cause. You also have to factor in the American dollars they earned that were wired back to families in their homeland. That money didn’t go back into our economy, so it’s a further drain on US citizens.

The lefty-leaning Fiscal Times based their information on stats at the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy and they go on to say that the group’s analysis estimated that illegal immigrants’ combined nationwide state and local tax contributions would increase by $845 million under full implementation of Obama’s 2012 and 2014 executive actions and by $2.2 billion under comprehensive immigration reform.

To be such number gurus, they fail to see the equation can never equal out. Their numbers are garbage and their attitude about the contribution illegals are making tells me both the Fiscal Times and the ITEP are okay with amnesty and they’re okay with more unemployed Americans. That is just as despicable as O’s treatment of them as preferred citizens in job markets where they’re hired at a cheaper rate than they pay Americans.

That the illegal immigrants are here at all is against the law. That they’re in our tax and welfare systems is abominable.

Excellent piece and commentary. This whole thing really frosts me. What part of illegal doesn’t anyone get? What part of “faithfully execute our laws..” don’t our electeds get when they take their oath of office? We either have laws or we don’t. Selectively applying them depending on a political agenda is bullshit. It’s killing our country socially and economically.

    • Kathy says:

Except for a handful of good guys, ‘faithfully execute’ went out the window about 6 years ago. Every day they manage to bring another layer of deceit and treachery to our government. Thanks, Hardnox.

They have been in Texas all of my life.. The ones I know…DO NOT PAY TAXES.
      They work for cash.

I don’t know many specifically to say but have been told some even take and purchase using funds received to buy then sell things. And there are fairly long lines I have seen at western union and such sending money

First off I know for a fact that when an illegal fills out any forms he lists many more dependents than he has. I remember the boss of a company I worked for back a few years was hiring a very young wetback for menial work around the compound. The illegal’s list of dependent children would have put him fathering babies at seven years old….
Second, 11 billion does not nearly match the drain illegals put on the health care system, alone.

    • Kathy says:

Yep, we saw evidence of those excessive dependents last tax season when the IRS overpaid by zillions, with many refunds going to the same addresses.

You weren’t supposed to notice that the numbers don’t match. Silly conservative, go back to sleep.

Classic pencil pushers. Every corporation has them. Hide facts and figures they do not want known while highlighting those they do. Good writing spiel and voile any group can claim their points. Case in point climate change and corrupted data. Politicians have this down to an art and toadies eager to assist.

  4. CW says:

I’ve heard the crap about illegals contributing more than they take before and it’s laughable, of course, but it’s also easily disproved by common sense and simple observations of human behavior. Millions of people aren’t risking their lives to come here because they’re so excited about mowing lawns and cleaning houses and “living in the shadows.” There’s something else that makes it all worthwhile and that’s all the freebies – tens of billions of dollars’ worth. They get better schools, healthcare, roads, services and infrastructure all essentially for free in addition to theft by welfare.

    • Kathy says:

They get all that better stuff at the expense of American jobs and it’s all by design of O and his regime. That’s not likely to stop any time soon thanks to our useless Congress.

  5. vonMesser says:

They also “FORGOT” to mention the fact that these immigrants (mostly illegal) send 120 Billion a year of American money out of the country – and thus out of the economy.

    • Buck says:

It’s called, “Foreign Trade,” vM. They bring us a reintroduction of the many diseases our doctors and scientists had eradicated in years past and they take home our dollars…

  6. Garnet92 says:

VM just made my point. It’s well known that the most of the illegals sent as much as they can back to family in the old country. That money doesn’t get spent here.

    • Kathy says:

True, VM and Garnet, they left that part out…convenient, much? But we here at N&F didn’t miss it.

“You also have to factor in the American dollars they earned that were wired back to families in their homeland. That money didn’t go back into our economy, so it’s a further drain on US citizens.”
