Republican Trey Gowdy is now demanding that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton turn over her private email server to his Benghazi investigation committee so that Congress might have all the communications pertinent to the investigation.
Clinton has been involved in a major scandal over the fact that she used a private email system instead of the legal government-based email services. Investigators fear that Clinton deleted tens of thousands of emails and no one knows what was in them.
Finally, Gowdy is demanding that Congress get a look at all these emails.
Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy, the chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, has sent a letter to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s attorney requesting that she turn over her private email server to the State Department’s Inspector General or to another neutral third party.
“The Committee must have objective assurances it, and by extension the House of Representatives as a whole, has received all relevant information requested and necessary for a thorough investigation into what happened before, during and after the attacks in Benghazi, Libya,” he wrote in the letter. “More broadly, the equities in these emails extend beyond this Committee. The House of Representatives and the American people are entitled to a complete accounting of the Secretary’s official record during her time as Secretary of State.”
The letter asks her to respond by April 4.
“Should Secretary Clinton continue to maintain that the server and its contents are hers alone, I will inform the Speaker of the House of Representatives so that he can use the full powers of the House to take the necessary steps to protect the best interests of the American people,” he added.
At the risk of sounding ungrateful for his efforts, I’d say it’s a little too late now to demand her server be turned over to the Committee. They took too long and by now she’s had plenty of time to destroy it and get a new one.
Someone should have thought to blow the whistle on her much earlier – like while she was still SoS and using her private email to contact everyone she had business with.
There have to be hundreds of people out there that corresponded with her and have the same information. Gowdy would have to subpoena everyone’s emails and servers to get to the truth – he’ll never get it from her, especially now.
