THIS Has To Be A Relief.

At least to Dr. Alfred Nobel, he of the infamous Nobel Peace Prize. In recent years, the selection of the “honorees” has been, at best, dismal.

It looks like the much-maligned Committee has some much-needed NEW blood. And not a moment too soon. The leftist loons who WERE running the show about ran the esteemed Prize off the rails, like the left is wont to do. Story from Laurie Hanna from the dailymail.uk.com

War…at the Nobel Peace Prize: Committee chairman is demoted for first time in organisation’s 114-year history amid battle with right-wingers

  • Labour Party’s Thorbjoern Jagland ousted as chairman of the committee
  • Set to be replaced by Conservative rival Kaci Kullmann Five
  • No serving chair has ever been removed since awards first made in 1901

The committee that awards the Nobel Peace Prize has controversially demoted its chairman for the first time in the 114-year history of the award.

Thorbjoern Jagland, a former Norwegian prime minister of the Labour Party, has chaired the five-member panel since 2009 but was ousted after his right-wing opponents won a majority on the prestigious panel.

He will now revert to being a member of the committee that has received a near-record 276 nominees for the 2015 prize.

Kaci Kullmann Five, a former leader of Norway’s ruling Conservative Party, will now take over.

The country’s right-wing parties gained a new representative recently, giving them a 3-2 majority and allowing them to make the unprecedented demotion at the first meeting of 2015.

Declining to explain the decision, Ms Five said: ‘The committee chooses a leader every year.

‘This year is a new committee. Jagland has been a good leader for six years.’

Right-wing parties in the country, who won a parliamentary election in 2013 to oust a Labour-led government, have long disliked Jagland, who was prime minister from 1996.

Mr Jagland had attracted criticism after overseeing a number of controversial of awards, including ones made to Barack Obama in 2009 – less than a year after the U.S. president took office – to Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo in 2010 and to the European Union in 2012.

No serving chair has ever been ousted since the awards were first made in 1901, even with shifting political majorities.

The committee is appointed in line with the strength of the parties in Norway’s parliament.

Asle Sveen, a historian and Nobel expert, said of Mr Jagland’s demotion: ‘I don’t like it.’

Mr Jagland is also head of the 47-nation Council of Europe, which promotes democracy in Europe, and some right-wing parliamentarians say that amounts to a conflict of interest in deciding who receives the $1 million Nobel prize.

Controversy: Mr Jagland had attracted criticism after Barack Obama triumphed in 2009, less than a year after the U.S. president took office

Who SAID you can’t get something for NOTHING ? To me, THIS was the Award’s lowest moment.

While the Mail did a good report here, with the exception of the writer’s OBVIOUS disdain for the right,  they “overlooked” some of the more “controversial” awardees in the past 20 years.

Such as THIS “peaceful” man :

About tells it all, don’t you think ?

Or, maybe THIS one was “more” deserving :

Guess as long as one is a COMMITTED, deep down LEFTIST, or a ranting, screaming FRAUD, such as the Fraudacle, you have a chance at the Award. Didn’t see Ronaldus Magnus win one, did we ?

I applaud the Committee for shoving Jagland out of the way. I’m sure THEY could see the dismal failure of the lefty Jagland in even CONSIDERING someone who was NOT a terrorist, muslim sympathizer, serial fraud, or known liar, for a chance at an Award.

Let us hope Ms. Kullmann-Five can restore some of the lost lustre of the once-heralded Award. Hopefully, she is not too late. If the Nobel is to regain it’s status as something worth having, THESE types of “mistakes” must NEVER be made again :

‘Nuff said. You have YOUR work cut out for you, Ms. Kullmann-Five. I wish you well.

A belated hat-tip to Hardnox.

CLYDE. It would be NICE to see some HONOR restored to the Nobel Prize.

Better late than never I suppose, but it’s too bad they didn’t do this in 2008.

  2. Hardnox says:

Wouldn’t we all just love to see the Nobel Committee rescind the awards to Putt, Gore, Arafat, Carter, Clinton, and a host of others to make a point that their esteemed committee was taken over by lefties and their mission now is to correct former errors and reestablish integrity of the awards? One can dream…

  3. CW says:

It is a sad sign of the times we live in that the leftists feel entitled to keep their positions of authority or influence even when they are not in the majority because too many times they’ve been allowed to so. Jagland’s legacy is that he severely diminished the legitimacy of the Nobel prize as well as the credibility of the Nobel committee. He turned it into a joke. For that he deserves to be resoundly kicked to the curb and spat on.

Oh so typical. Leftists “wreck the train”, then the RIGHT has to come “fix” the problem, all the while having SCORN heaped upon it by the SAME leftists who wrecked the train in the first place. Good comment, CW, and thanks.

I was soooo hoping, they were taking Obama’s away from him.
