Arizona PD Call Tunnel Discovery ‘National Security Issue’

From Tucson News Now:

Local and federal law enforcement agencies are investigating a sophisticated smuggling tunnel that was found in Naco, AZ, after a large drug seizure near Bisbee on Monday.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the tunnel is tied to the $3 million marijuana bust, in which 4,700 pounds of marijuana was seized and two people were arrested.

Immigration Customs and Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. Border Patrol, and the Bisbee Police Department were involved in the bust of an alleged large-scale marijuana smuggling scheme, according to a CBP statement.

Bisbee police Staff Sgt. Robert Coronado called this a “national security issue” until CBP can search out and secure all tunnel access points.

Coronado said a Bisbee police officer stopped a cargo truck at about 6 p.m. on Feb. 23 near Highway 92 and South Wilson Road between Naco and Bisbee.

The officer found 207 bundles of marijuana, worth an estimated $3 million, according to Bisbee police.

There are dozens of tunnels along our southern border and there should be a heavy federal presence in this area with manpower being used to find and destroy them, yet this discovery was made through a traffic stop by the local police.

Meanwhile we have Jeh Johnson at the mic scaring the people with talks of mall concerns, and it’s likely a ploy to push the DHS funding through, but no concerns about our border.

How many more shipments and more illegals went through that tunnel unnoticed?  Yeah, I’d say this is a national security issue and it would be just swell if we had some adults in charge of it.

    Good post and commentary.

It sure would be nice if adults were in charge for a change.

  2. Clyde says:

These CBP guys are missing the boat. Once these tunnels are “discovered”, they COULD be used to their advantage. Say NOTHING about finding the tunnels, let the “heat” on the smugglers die down, all the while, CBP could be booby-trapping these tunnels. Install concealed cameras, wired to explosive charges, and once Pedro and Manuelo are loading the tunnels with the shit, EL BOOMO.

    • Kathy says:

El Boomo? omg, Clyde, you’re killin’ me over here, lol. I am kinda liking the idea though, and they’d only have to do it once.

I’m not so worried about a little weed coming into the country so much as I am about the possibility of the cartels finding it more lucrative to smuggle OTM’s. No overhead, no farming, harvesting, packing. No chemicals to purchase, no chemists to pay. Just collect the $$ and show them the tunnel…

    • Kathy says:

I’d say that 4700 lbs is more than a little weed, but I get your drift. No doubt that tunnel was already used for smuggling in hundreds of illegals – they just didn’t get caught.

  4. upaces88 says:

EXACTLY. They built that damn tunnel…so the fence is useless.
Clyde! I am right there with you and agree 100%.

    • Kathy says:

The fence that was never finished you mean? The one that the Mexicans jack up a section at a time and a dozen illegals can walk through side by side? Yeah, it’s useless alright.

  5. CW says:

Do we have any unemployed snipers out there?

Leave the tunnel open and pick them off as they come through.

  6. Uriel says:

Even more scary is that Islamics are increasingly moving throughout Central America. What better way to move entire armies into the US and oh by the way make them US citizens if obama has his way in this immigration round.

    • Kathy says:

Exactly, Uriel, we’ve seen many reports of the BP finding prayer blankets and copies of the Quran mixed in the trail of trash they leave around the border.

  7. Garnet92 says:

Unfortunately, it’s going to take a terrorist strike somewhere in the U.S. before ANYTHING will be done about the borders – any of them. Obama doesn’t give a crap about a pesky 4,700 lbs of weed coming into the country as long as his illegal democrat voters and welfare recipients keep on coming.

    • Uriel says:

You know. I came up in the McCarthy era and at the time considered it a witch hunt. Sadly, I believe we NEED to resurrect the Committee on UnAmerican activities again or we will NEVER be rid of this problem in time to preserve our constitution and democracy. Bill Reilly and all others are under attack from this Mother Jones group. The very group who was allowed by IRS to attain nontaxable and reporting status when those in Tea Party and other groups were halted and in many cases illegally or shall I say unexpectedly investigated by IRS and others..

    • Kathy says:

I’m afraid you’re right, Garnet, leaving that border as porous as possible is part of the plan.

  8. captbogus2 says:

Right, Kathy. Sooner or later the weight of entitlements to all those illegals will collapse the economy by itself.
