Local and federal law enforcement agencies are investigating a sophisticated smuggling tunnel that was found in Naco, AZ, after a large drug seizure near Bisbee on Monday.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the tunnel is tied to the $3 million marijuana bust, in which 4,700 pounds of marijuana was seized and two people were arrested.
Immigration Customs and Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. Border Patrol, and the Bisbee Police Department were involved in the bust of an alleged large-scale marijuana smuggling scheme, according to a CBP statement.
Bisbee police Staff Sgt. Robert Coronado called this a “national security issue” until CBP can search out and secure all tunnel access points.
Coronado said a Bisbee police officer stopped a cargo truck at about 6 p.m. on Feb. 23 near Highway 92 and South Wilson Road between Naco and Bisbee.
The officer found 207 bundles of marijuana, worth an estimated $3 million, according to Bisbee police.
There are dozens of tunnels along our southern border and there should be a heavy federal presence in this area with manpower being used to find and destroy them, yet this discovery was made through a traffic stop by the local police.
Meanwhile we have Jeh Johnson at the mic scaring the people with talks of mall concerns, and it’s likely a ploy to push the DHS funding through, but no concerns about our border.
How many more shipments and more illegals went through that tunnel unnoticed? Yeah, I’d say this is a national security issue and it would be just swell if we had some adults in charge of it.
