The Sun Also Rises

From Canada Free Press

In largely lib-left Canada, for disenfranchised small-c conservatives, the sun didn’t come up as usual this morning.

The Sun News Network, the rising sun for thousands of conservatives, was shut down forever as of 5 a.m. EST.

With no other right-of-center television networks in operation,  and with next to no right-of-center newspapers or magazines available, and an October Canadian general election on the way, Friday, February 13, 2015 dawned the darkest of days.

Included in the darkness were 200 people thrown out of work, many of them having to read the obituary on the demise of their 4-year-old network via the reportage of their number one enemy, the kept-afloat-by government Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

It takes forbearance, courage and persistence to be a conservative in the Canadian news business, and double doses of each when there are few, if any, future places of employment to which to turn.

The Sun News Network’s enterprising reporters Ezra Levant, Brian Lilley and others made watching television worthwhile again after a much too long hiatus.

“The Sun News Network went off the air Friday, Feb. 13, 2015 after negotiations to sell the troubled television channel were unsuccessful.” (The Canadian Press)

“Quebecor shut the door permanently on Sun News Network this morning, leaving 200 people without jobs.

“In a statement, Sun Media Corporation said it spent months “actively seeking a potential buyer” but no party was able to step up.

This is an unfortunate outcome; shutting down Sun News was certainly not our goal,” said Julie Tremblay, President and CEO of Media Group and Sun Media Corporation.

“Over the past four years, we tried everything we could to achieve sufficient market penetration to generate the profits needed to operate a national news channel.”

“Sadly, the numerous obstacles to carriage that we encountered spelled the end of this venture.”

“Sun TV has struggled to attract viewers and in 2013 the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission rejected the network’s request for mandatory carriage on basic cable.

“Last October Postmedia Network Canada Corp. announced it was buying the English-language Sun Media newspapers and digital news sites from Quebecor Inc. for $316-million, but Sun News Network was not included in the deal leaving its future in doubt.

“The network launched in 2011 as a right-of-centre news channel, dubbed “Fox News North” by its critics.

“Mandatory carriage would have generated significant revenue for the network, which lost $14.8 million in 2013, and almost $50-million over a three-year span.”

They’re gloating over at the CBC,  tagged the Communist Broadcasting Corporation by many Canadians, angry 1 billion of heir tax dollars a year pay to keep the left-leaning television network afloat.

When you can count on one billion dollars a year from the government and there’s no slow down in the steady stream of cafe lattes while you ponder the next conservative target, there’s ample time for gloating.

For the cheering lib-left,  the death of the Sun News Network couldn’t possibly have come at a better time. Canadians will go to the polls for a general election in October this year.

The election campaign of their hero,  Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, is getting help from the Barack Obama election team.

It’s been a decades-long arid desert for Conservative voices in Canada, and many thought they found their voice in Sun Media TV.

But there’s a silver lining even in this dark cloud.  It’s time for a privately-run conservative national network that doesn’t rely on government bureaucrats for cable network carriage.

Perhaps such a network will soon prove that the sun also rises.

Glenn Beck proved it can be done.  So can you, Ezra Levant and Brian Lilley.

Godspeed.

From ACT! for Canada

ACT! for Canada learned with deep sadness and concern of the dissolution of the SUN News Network, which for the past three years has been providing fortunate Canadians (alas, never enough of us due to the intransigence of the CRTC) with stimulating conservative news and opinion.

SUN was the only right-leaning news station amidst a plethora of left-leaning broadcasters, and for conservative and libertarian viewers–or for those simply looking for another point of view–it provided indispensable coverage of issues related to Canadian national security, the terror threat, immigration, education, the environment, foreign policy, freedom of speech, Islamist infiltration into our police and intelligence services, and much more.

Forthright and indefatigable journalists such as Brian Lilley, Michael Coren, and Ezra Levant provided perspectives and information that no other broadcaster would even touch. How galling to think that the tax-payer funded CBC can chortle in triumph over the death of its spunky rival while being funded to the tune of a billion dollars per year. What SUN could have done with half that amount! The benefits of SUN’s demise to left-leaning political leaders Justin Trudeau and Thomas Mulcair, especially with a federal election on the horizon, are incalculable. And the loss to the Canadian public is inestimable.

We bid a fond farewell to SUN.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So….. Now we are left with the insanity of the left and what they call journalism! In other words…. no truth, just Bovine Scatology!

To say I was shocked this morning when I turned to the TV Channel to watch Sun News and couldn’t see anything but the Sun News Logo is an understatement.

Unfortunately….Canada will be having her Federal Election coming this Fall and without any coverage from a media to tell it like it is, we will have to listen to the Communist Channel ( aka CBC) and her affiliates , comrades in arms, CTV, Global news spewing how wonderful Trudunce is and how evil PM Harper is. It almost makes me nauseous already!

This whole thing is smelling really bad! From some other media I have read ….even some of Quebecor’s employees working at Sun News did not even know that there was a chance of them not having jobs this morning! They had not been informed beforehand. What kind of company doesn’t send out notices to it’s employees , warning them that they may only have a couple weeks left of employment, if they are unable to sell the business? I’m smelling something funny here….. I’m almost positive that this is not the full story about Sun News Network.

Did someone influential get Sun News pulled off the air? I wouldn’t be surprised at all. Sun News didn’t play favorites and anyone was fair game…especially the CBC! Could they have had something to do with it? Who did they bribe at the CRTC? My enquiring mind wants to know!!!

Here’s hoping that soon either Brian Lilly or Ezra Levant will let us know what the heck went on and we’ll get the full skinny!

Canada has always been left of center and government oriented. From strictest gun laws to harboring American draft dodgers of the ’60”s and support for King George when you had a chance to fight to be free of rule by fiat.. But that might not be the problem. The problem might lie in that was where we shipped our Tories after the American Revolution. But looking at the USA today, seems we probably had quite a few more we should have shipped somewhere.

While that is true….PM Harper has pulled us farther back to center than what was previous….pushing the Liberals and the NDP even farther left than when they started.

There are actually more folks in Canada that are now right in that same area with Harper with their political stance.

NOTE**** Next time please ship them to Cuba!

  2. CW says:

Please forgive my ignorance, BB, but isn’t Harper a conservative? I’m having trouble understanding how Canada came to have a conservative PM and yet there isn’t enough support for even one conservative news channel. If it’s anything like here, I will assume that the Left has spent the last century locking in place all the mechanisms that auto-feed the progressive machinery, such as automatic (and for all practical purposes, irreversible) funding for leftwing propaganda. Unless your conservative politicians go after that machinery there’s little hope for Canada; but if it’s any consolation I feel the same way about the U.S.

I was just about to ask the very same thing just from what little I know about Harper.

    • Blessed B. says:

Yes….. Harper is a Conservative. There is more than enough support for one conservative news channel.

The problem is the left pretty well controls the media. They didn’t like Sun News at all and did everything they could to have Sun News taken off the air.

Su News had to fight last year with the CRTC to get on cable. They were able to due to the many folks that wrote in and gave their support for Sun News.

Another problem…..the Sun News channel was way down the list on the tv guide section. I watched it on channel 177 with Shaw Cable service. I believe if they had been able to get in the lower channels they might have been watched by more folks.

  3. Clyde says:

Shit, WHY didn’t they call Rupert Murdoch? I’m SURE he’d like a Canadian subsidiary.

    • Blessed B. says:

LOL! I bet they didn’t even think of that!

I’m feeling there is more of a story here than what has been told. I believe someone with a lot of power wanted Sun News off the air cuz they were telling folks the truth about islam , global warming scam, American politics, Canadian politics, Canadian news, …….

That part about being denied mandatory Carriage on basic cable….. I believe they had actually won that fight with the CRTC. I’ll have to find the story once again about it. This would have meant they were getting some of the pie from the Cable company’s revenues……

I think this is the one I was looking for….

      http://o.canada.com/business/news-channels-a-la-carte

~Quote~ Now, cable and satellite providers will be forced to offer all Canadian news channels a-la carte rather than have them strictly bundled in packages with international offerings, or not accessible at all.
