Quote Of The Day — December 24, 2014

“Some people insist that “mediocre” is better than “best”.  They delight in clipping wings because they themselves can’t fly. They despise brains because they have none. Pfah!”

Robert A. Heinlein, “Have Space Suit—Will Travel” (1958) Chapter 9

    Very Good, Grouchy

  2. Hardnox says:

Good quote. Not having brains doesn’t stop them from issuing decrees on how we should behave.

    • Grouchy says:

      G’Morning, Hardnox,,,
Kind of goes along with a lot of Ayn Rand’s works, especially “Atlas Shrugged”.
It’s the old, “Tear down the King of the Mountain” syndrome.

  3. Just Gene says:

The sad fact is, in the land of incompetence, mediocrity IS king.

  4. vonmesser says:

Unfortunately, in American politics, sometimes mediocre can get elected where best (or even very good – Romney for example) can’t.

    • Grouchy says:

Good point, VM,,, So, how do we explain that? Is it failure of education to teach logic and historical paradigms of the collapse of prior civilizations? OR, is it the fear of achievement and success, with the attendant fear of disgrace in case of failure?

  5. Hi Grouchy,

How sad that some people feel so inferior that they would “clip someone else’s wings” to hold them back. That is a very toxic person, someone to keep out of one’s life. I have a motto to keep only positive people in my life who love to share in any kind of happiness I may have. As I am happy to hear of someone’s happiness too.

Great quote for Christmas Eve when we all are sharing the birth of Jesus who loves us all so much.

Welcome, Pepper, and good to see you it is, aye~!
I have found in my life, that being thankful for the achievements and successes of others only adds to the chances for my own successes. But fear and ego all too often do not permit that kind of sentiments, and therefore many end up wallowing in the gutter of life, wondering what has gone wrong.
It has been well said and written, as ye sow, so shall ye reap. And that applies both here, and hereafter.
Merry Christmas, Pepper, and a Blessed, Happy and HEALTHY New Year~!
