Another “Government Motors / Green Car Success” Story.

This has GOT to be getting embarrassing for Government Motors. Obama has no such issues.

Yep, those Volts. Setting sales records, as well as garages, on FIRE. Or not.


Chevy Volt Sales Plunge 32% in October.

I wonder if “Motor Trend” has ANY embarrassment as well, giving this thing COTY before ONE of the things were sold. The poor bastards depending on hauling these for a living MUST be starving.


 Wonder if it would help their sales if a FIRE EXTINGUISHER was included with purchase??


GM ALREADY had a GOOD electric alternative with THIS. GM’s EV-1. Never heard of THESE burning down garages.

On Friday, General Motors reported its monthly sales figures for October. Overall the auto company said it sold 33,000 more cars this October, compared to the month last year. Overall sales increased just over 15%, beating Wall Street expectations. Tucked into its sales figures, however, was a staggering 32% drop in sales of the company’s iconic Chevy Volt. The company sold just over 2,000 Volts in October. Last October, the company sold almost 3,000.

Overall, sales of the Volt are down 3% for the year so far. This comes as GM has increased its total car sales by just over 9% for the year. The Volt, which has played a central role in the company’s rebranding since its government takeover, is badly trailing the rest of the automaker’s fleet. The sales disappointment comes even as the company offers special leasing terms and zero-downpayment for the Volt.

Despite nearly constant media promotion, there simply is little mass market demand for electric vehicles. Even if a consumer were shopping for an electric vehicle as an extra car, several battery fires in Volt vehicles doesn’t do much to recommend the car.

Consumers don’t like their luxury or vanity products spontaneously combusting.


 From dismal to downright piss poor sales numbers. If there is one thing I know about the car business, THIS type of publicity SHOULD kill the damned thing. But with the Obama crew still, in essence, running things at Government Motors, it’ll NEVER die the death the platform deserves.

When GM first put the EV-1 on the market back in the early to mid 1990’s, it had ZERO ballyhoo outside of California. I hauled quite a number of them, and not one complaint from anyone about it. Makes me wonder WHY GM killed it for the Dolt.

    GM killed it for the Dolt for the same reason GM got in so bad trouble it had to sell its soul to the government.
    Pisspoor management and union bullying.

      Definitely piss poor management. Unions didn’t have much to do with this, since THEY had already snagged the building of it.

    Good read, Clyde. My first thought is this – GM actually DESERVES stuff like this! Things like this come with selling your soul to the devil. Always has, Always will. Once you are a ‘bought commodity’, relax, shut up and ENJOY your new digs. As a consumer, I think they deserve this if for nothing else, for letting DCAsshats make them drop Pontiac. ‘Nuff said #TransAMRulz? Oh wait, not any more!!

      My wife’s car is a color called Electric Wasabi Green. Or, as the Scion/ Toyota brochure described it, PUKE green. But, hey, SHE loves the damn thing.Not to mention the lack of accountability in the upper echelon at Government Motors either, Mrs. Al. Thanks for coming by.
