.
Americanism is a question of principle, of purpose, of idealism, of character. It is not a matter of birthplace or creed or line of descent.”

    Well said Grouchy!

  2. Hardnox says:

Absolutely true. Americanism also includes adopting the country’s traditions.

  3. Old “Rough and Ready” knew what the score was~!
    Thanks, Gentlemen, for your comments~!!

  4. Clyde says:

Good one, GF. Something I can agree with the “progressive” on.

  5. Mrs AL says:

Well, here is the sour grape once more haunting the halls of Grouchyville.

The little hairs on the back of my neck always stand up when I hear/read about “isms.” Not sure why. And in this case, there are two of them!

    • 😀 Choose your definitions carefully. Not ALL “ism” s are terrifying to the Stand-up Crowd,,, And without Ideals and Idealism, Patriotism and Americanism are Dead in the Water,,, like a Windjammer with no wind~!

      • Mrs AL says:

I know. That’s my point, I realize some “isms” aren’t negative but even those lead my little hairs to somewhat stand up. Again, no clue why. Maybe I was attacked by an ism as a child — hehe

  6. Buck says:

All families have some black sheep. The Isms are no different.
Like a High School teacher used to compare various classmates with the Tater family.
    Spec Tater
    Dick Tater
    Agie Tater…etc
It’s just the Isms might have a whole branch of the family that has gone over to the dark side…

  7. Terry says:

Zero loses on all aspects of the quote.

  8. Kathy says:

Birthplace has everything to do with it – take Kenya for example. People from there don’t have much Americanism.
