Remember That Sequestration Thingy?

Well, it looks like ZeroCare is about to hit a wall.

From the Heritage Foundation:

Remember sequestration? Those automatic budget cuts that went into effect when Congress failed to do real budgeting a couple of years ago? It’s hitting Obamacare now.

Both laws have been around for awhile, but the Obama Administration hasn’t done anything to prepare for their collision.

The cuts are hitting a set of subsidies that were supposed to help pay deductibles and co-pays for lower-income Americans with Obamacare coverage. An Obama official pledged there would be a plan before the Obamacare exchanges opened on October 1, but that didn’t happen.

So now what? Heritage expert Chris Jacobs writes in today’s Wall Street Journal:

There are two possible outcomes. The first is that individuals who have managed to enroll in subsidized health insurance will find they’ve been misled about their copays and deductibles. Families who currently think their plan will charge a $20 copayment for doctor visits may instead face a $25 charge when the sequester kicks in. Individuals who now believe they face maximum out-of-pocket costs of $2,000 may end up paying hundreds more.

The other option? Stick the insurance companies with the cuts and tell them to deal with it. (That would be about $286 million through next September.)

As Jacobs says, neither looks good for the Administration:

It can tell the American people that the “good deal” President Obama promised isn’t as good as they thought—that those who spent hours and days signing up on Healthcare.gov bought coverage that will cost more than advertised….Or the administration can try to force insurers to bear the full costs of the sequester reductions—and watch them promptly drop out of the exchanges.

Not a day passes when we are spared from another tale of Obamacare falling apart. It simply doesn’t work as promised.

—oo—

What a shame.  In the meantime, Zero’s tech Czar announced today that the ZeroCare website will be up and running by the end of November.  He neglected to mention which year.

Maybe this is Boehner’s magic bullet if he remembers where he put it.

  1. Wonder if (o) is beginning to realize he and his paramour jarrett are in over their heads???

  2. Kathy says:

Too bad he didn’t think to check with those techs before he chose opening day.

Individuals finding out they’ve been misled??? Misled is putting it mildly.

  3. Saltwater says:

To the Dems who dreamed up ObamaCare, and Zero who dreamed up the sequester – You asked for it. You got it. Learn to love it.

  4. bullright says:

Oh, if he remembers, LOL. What insanity, caught in their own trap. By December they’ll be good to go! (wonder what the so-called fix will cost?)

    • Hardnox says:

I just read that the no-bid contract has reached $678 million. Up $35 million in just two weeks. No doubt it will hit a cool billion before long… and it will still be crap.

  5. Buck says:

I’m hoping the health insurance ceo’s have figured out if they just hold on for a bit longer……

A friend of mine is the CEO of two major hospitals here and that’s what he tells me. Everyone is waiting for the floor to drop out because they know this is an epic disaster.

0bama’s plans are like Wiley Coyote chasing the Roadrunner…it fails when it hits the deceptive illusion every time.

  7. Clyde says:

Is there a word that goes beyond steaming f#%&ing incompetence? I have a hard time believing this fiasco is the result of incompetence, but more of a plan to run the LEGITIMATE insurance companies out of business, as to get the Brass Ring of single-payer. A funny story. While caring for the lovely Mrs. Clyde yesterday, the phone rang. It was my health insurance agent, wanting to see what our total income was to see if we would qualify for a subsidy under the fiasco. I told him not to worry, I would MAKE my income whatever he needed it to be, and to not get in too big a hurry to sign me up, as I believed this was going to come crashing down. He said, and I know he is NOT on our side, that he has never seen a cluster as big as this one, and the unsaid word among those in the insurance business is that it does, indeed, look like this whole thing is coming unraveled, but he believes like me that the ultimate goal is single-payer ONLY through the Regime.

    • Mrs AL says:

I agree fully Clyde. Running legitimate businesses out of business is what this admin is all about!

    • Terry says:

      Ditto the ‘single payer’ Clyde.
The regime is willing to bite the “Ooops bullet” long enough for the insurers to bail out. Then come to our rescue with their commie insurance.
      Stupid like a fox.
