Quote Of The Day — October 2, 2013

.
We have erased segregation in those areas of national life to which Federal authority clearly extends. So doing in this, my friends, we have neither sought nor claimed partisan credit, and all such actions are nothing more — nothing less than the rendering of justice. And we have always been aware of this great truth: the final battle against intolerance is to be fought — not in the chambers of any legislature — but in the hearts of men.”

President Dwight D. Eisenhower
Address at the Hollywood Bowl, Beverly Hills, California, 10/19/56

  1. Buck says:

A reference to the Brown v Board of Education (1954). The decision, while right, was implemented wrong bringing our education system crashing down.

  2. Mrs AL says:

In your best DDE, Grouchy, what would he say with regard to this (“We have erased segregation in those areas of national life to which Federal authority clearly extends.”), the extension of Federal authority today?

    • Mrs. AL, I often wonder the same thing. He himself warned against a behemoth he clearly saw coming down the pike – The Military / Industrial complex. And I’m sure, that like MLK, JR, he would cringe in his grave to see the state of integration today. As for Federal “Authority”,,, I imagine he would “get out his Claymore and start hacking” ~!

Agree with Buck. This opened up a can of worms that are still wiggling to this day.
