Updated: Bikers Denied Permit to Ride Through DC

Most everyone is aware of the Million Muslim March on Washington DC scheduled for 9/11/2013. They are descending on Washington in protest of unfair treatment in being unilaterally blamed for the events of 9/11/2001. That they picked this solemn day of remembrance is an insult and a slap in the face to all Americans. Their callous abuse of that date and our nation’s capital is a new low in our history.

As a counter measure to the muslim’s actions and to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks, a couple of weeks ago some bikers threw together a group whose plans are to ride to DC on the same day. Thanks in part to Facebook and the internet, in that small timespan, they’ve organized and gathered bikers from all over the United States. From the onset, they have expressed that this is to be a peaceful ride and anyone causing trouble will be tossed out.

They went through the legal channels in requesting a permit for a no-stop ride, where they would ride through the city peaceably and go on their way. A permit to ride through means the City officials would block traffic for an hour or so and allow the bikers to ride through without having to stop at traffic lights, etc. thereby avoiding hours of traffic congestion.

Their permit was denied, but they’re going anyway. They, like all of us have a right to travel wherever and whenever they so desire, but without the permit, they will have to obey traffic rules, stopping at lights, yielding to pedestrians, you get the picture.

Many bikers have already left the west coast, the ones from Texas and some other central states are left yesterday – kick-stands up, as they call it.

Here is their statement:

Washington DC has DENIED our permit for a no-stop ride through Washington DC. We find this regretful for the residents and businesses of that great city, and humbly offer our apologies. What could have been a one or two hour ride through will now likely be an all day event. We will be obeying all laws. We will be stopping at all stoplights, stop signs, and yielding to all pedestrians.

RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES OF WASHINGTON DC: On behalf of the National “2 Million Bikers to DC” Team, please accept our sincere apologies. We did the right thing and went through the proper channels to secure a no-stop permit to ride through your great city. We wanted to ride an established route, which would have taken us past the Viet Nam Memorial to the Lincoln Memorial, across the bridge into Virginia, and that’s it! We would have been completely out of Washington DC, and your city would have been back to normal.

The National Team fully expected our permit to be rejected, and have already drafted a Plan-B. That Plan-B will be posted a little later today once the final details have been bolted down. We know that California and Texas riders had kicks stands up yesterday. Many other western states have kickstand up today and throughout the weekend.

RIDERS: You are true, blue Patriots and we salute you for your participation in this event! Many of you have taken time off of work to be here. You have freely given of your time, your funds, and your bikes to ride shoulder to shoulder in this event. You have left your families and your jobs to be here. Those of us who ride come from different clubs, chapters, and organizations. Some of us ride with family and friends and some ride alone. But on September 11th, we ride as one!! We ride to pay tribute and offer respect to those that lost their lives on that day 12 years ago, and to salute our troops engaged in the War on Terror. Riders!…we are the best of the best in America!! Our love for these people and this country is staggering, and we will make a display of Patriotism and solidarity America won’t soon forget!!

Riders!…we lift you up to the Lord and pray that His hand and divine protection will ride with you all.”

A couple of weeks ago at our old site, I posted a story about this, ( http://hardnoxandfriends.wordpress.com/2013/08/22/bikers-to-join-muslims-on-911-this-oughta-be-good/)  in which the statement was made that, so far, less than a hundred muslims had RSVP’d to attend. At this point it’s hard to speculate how many will attend, but I think it’ safe to say there will be far more bikers than muslims in DC.

From looking at the Facebook page established by the bikers, there are 980 from Texas and 877 from Florida who have signed on as members. That’s not to say all those members will be riding to DC, but it does say they all support the ride. If only half of those numbers ride, it’s going to get really crowded on the streets of Washington, and personally, I hope we see live coverage on tv.

Here is a link to their FB page so you can see the numbers for yourself. https://www.facebook.com/events/723780277635641/

We here at Hardnox and Friends wish these guys and gals safe travels and a trouble free visit to our nation’s capital.

May the breeze be gentle on your face,

May the winds be fair upon your back,

and May all the Biker’s Heaves be at your sides.

Thank You Bikers For Representing America !

As Kathy has pointed out, this is a ‘slap in the face’ to all Americans.  Adding to that ‘slap in the face’ is the denial of the permit for the Bikers who want to show their support for our country as we remember that awful day.  I have to wonder if this was an intentional slap in the face, or an incredible act of ignorance on someone’s part.

Godspeed, Bikers!

I came across this picture on FB and it just makes my heart swell with pride and patriotism to see this kind of support and patriotism for our country.

  2. Wendy says:

Terry and I know one guy in North Carolina that will probably be participating in this. He’s an old high school friend of Terry’s. His name is Rudy, and I can’t wait for him to go!!!!

  3. Garnet92 says:

I remembered an old Irish blessing that I proceeded to butcher, but it’s my contribution to ‘Nox & Friends tribute to the riders:

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and the rains part as you pass.
Ride safe and proud, my friends.
Your country’s prayers ride with you.
And may God hold you in the palm of His hand until you reach home safely.
