Oppose Homosexuality? Don’t Run for Office in San Antonio!

I found this on Weasel Zippers, who ‘Scours the Bowels of the Internet’ and that’s where this brilliant decision by the City of San Antonio belongs, then flush repeatedly.

San Antonio Passes Ordinance Banning Anyone Who Opposes Homosexuality From Running For Office, Receiving A City Contract…

Diversity apparently trumps religious beliefs

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — San Antonio’s leaders on Thursday approved anti-bias protections for gay and transgender residents, over the disapproval of top Texas Republicans and religious conservatives who packed a City Council hearing and occasionally shamed supporters for comparing the issue to the civil rights movement.

The San Antonio City Council is doing some housecleaning to combine all of its anti-discrimination rules and ordinances into one. The consolidated ordinance states a desire to adopt a “comprehensive and expanded non-discrimination policy with revisions to outdated terminology.”

The 8-3 City Council vote in favor of the ordinance was a victory for gay rights advocates and for Democratic Mayor Julian Castro, a top surrogate of President Barack Obama. Castro has called the ordinance overdue in the nation’s seventh-largest city, where there is a stronger current of traditionalism and conservatism than other major Texas cities that already have similar gay rights protections.

According to Pastor Charles Flowers of Faith Outreach International, the city leaders want to add two categories to the policy: sexual orientation and gender identity.

“The ordinance also says that if you have at any point demonstrated a bias – without defining what a bias is or who will determine whether or not one has been exercised – that you cannot get a city contract,” he told OneNewsNow. “Neither can any of your subcontractors [who have demonstrated a bias] sign on to the contract.”

Moreover, according to a draft of the revised policy, no one who has spoken out against homosexuality or the transgender lifestyle can run for city council or be appointed to a board. Flowers says the Arizona-based legal firm Alliance Defending Freedom has taken a look at the ordinance.

“They said they’ve never seen this kind of language in any other ordinance in any other city that they’ve dealt with,” the pastor shares. “It is unprecedentedly wrong – and of course the citizens of San Antonio must stop it.”

Supporters in red shirts and opponents in blue sat on opposite sides of the ornate council chamber Thursday. Church leaders vowed petitions to recall council members, and the shouts of protesters outside City Hall often carried through the stone walls of the century-old building.

They’re discriminating against people who they think are discriminating against homos, pervs and sickos. Is that bias or anti-bias? Whichever it is, it takes stupid to a whole new stratospheric level.

By upholding this ordinance, they are dictating to people what they can and can’t support, what they can and cannot believe in, and basically taking the Bible and Christianity and tossing it out the door.

According to The Blaze, San Antonio joins nearly 180 other U.S. cities that have nondiscrimination ordinances that prohibit bias based on sexual orientation or gender identity, says Human Rights Campaign.  San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro’s narrative has been that San Antonio embraces the kind of political values that will soon spread statewide and turn Texas blue.

I would tell Mr. Castro that he needn’t pretend to be a Christian if those are what he considers values. Those are not values, they are points in the communist agenda to take down our country,  (see #26 on their list of 50) and you cannot be both a Christian and a communist.

San Antonio, I am ashamed of you and of this ordinance, especially when you consider you would not have this city on the river, had it not been for the good Christian men who fought and died so you could have a future here. You don’t deserve to be in Texas.

I guess I won’t be running for elected office in San Antonio.

  2. San Antonio City Council is not fit to lick the boots of the likes of James Bowie, William Travis, or even George C. Kimble, for whom Kimble County, Texas, is named. You, Council, collectively shame the memory of every Patriot who died in the Battle of the Alamo.

  3. Clyde says:

Smells like a GOOD person could file an anti-discrimination suit of their own. Fight these asshats with THEIR tactics.

  4. vonmesser says:

Remember, folks, it’s not discrimination if it’s against Christians or straights.

The left continues it’s quest to be on the wrong side of EVERYTHING !

I will keep my keyboard quiet. Don’t want to get started. We would all be sorry.

Although I’m a Tokie (a transplanted Texan to Oklahoma) I follow the Texas news on WBAP out of Fort Worth and KWFS, Wichita Falls.
A Texas commentator named Robert Pratt, “Pratt on Texas” has been following this story for almost a month.
You Texicans should see if he’s not on a local station as he really gets into Texas politics.
